Emerging Tech Talk #018 – Open Source and Microblogging

January 26th, 2009 by Dan York

Why are identi.ca and laconica important? What are they anyway? What about Google’s making Jaiku open source?

In this episode, host Dan York talks about recent news of Identi.ca’s funding (see also here) and Google’s move to make Jaiku open source (see also here): what they mean in the social media picture and why open source platforms for microblogging may be useful (if for no other reason than to have a Plan B for any problems with Twitter).

Note: Developers may find my OSCON slides about adding voice to Identi.ca of interest. I also discussed Laconi.ca’s value in my review of corporate internal microblogging options.

If you use identi.ca, you can also subscribe to our updates at identi.ca/voxeo.
