IETF 70: A quick interview with Voxeo CTO RJ Auburn

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Out here at IETF 70 in Vancouver, British Columbia, I decided to continue our experimentation with video with this quick lunchtime interview with RJ Auburn:

For those curious, this was shot with my Canon SD1000 “point-and-shoot” camera, imported into iMovie ‘08 for editing and credits and then exported to YouTube (again using iMovie ‘08). Audio of the rain is a bit louder than I would like, but I’m just using the omnidirectional mic built into the Canon camera.

Comments about our little experiments are definitely welcome.

A video greeting from IETF 70 in Vancouver

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Being a US East Coaster, I found myself up extremely early this morning and so I decided to go over to the Westin hotel and try a little bit of video. So here you have a greeting from Vancouver:

For those interested, this video was created just using the built-in camera on my MacBook Pro, edited slightly in iMovie ‘08 and then uploaded to YouTube using the “Export to YouTube…” feature of iMovie ‘08.

The long days of IETF…

52983DEB-348C-4E43-960B-65166FFCFCE4.jpgGetting in at 2am last night, the 8am breakfast and 9am start of sessions here at IETF came awfully early… but the kicker for East Coasters is that the meetings to until almost 8pm! Somewhere in my brain I was thinking they ended around 6pm… but then I realized that 19:50 isn’t 5:50pm but rather 7:50pm! Long days… (Of course, one could not go to all these sessions, but that’s not my way, and of course the final session today is SIP, which is a rather critical one of interest.)

Sessions here have been quite good today. It’s great to meet up in my Voxeo context with people I’ve met in the past at IETF events or worked with through either mailing lists or VOIPSA. Tonight I’ll be heading to dinner with some folks from the VOIPSEC mailing list. Our current reservation is at 9pm, which works out to midnight US Eastern time! I expect I’ll be rather hungry… :-)

Flying to Vancouver

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

Well so far this trip is starting off on the fun side with a bunch of flight delays from United. On the bright side they rebooked me on US Air automatically so it looks like I may actually make it to Vancouver before midnight. The real kicker however is going to be the 50 degree drop in temperature that is coming my way when I land: IETF Weather On the serous side I am looking forward to a busy week of standards meetings and catching up with industry colleagues. Between sip, sipping, mediactl and all the other groups that I will be attending it will be a busy few days especially once you mix in a few customer meetings that I have scheduled with folks who are in the area.
