Voxeo Talks

What was Voxeo doing at ITEXPO East 2011 last week in Miami? What is new with “cloud communications”? What are our customers asking us about? What new technology is emerging for communications?

Every six months at the ITEXPO events, I usually sit down with a TMC editor to talk on video about what’s new and interesting… and last week was no different. I sat down with TMC’s Pat Barnard to talk about the panels we were speaking on at ITEXPO and the Cloud Communications Summit and the answers to those questions above. The video is now online and viewable:

Considering that this interview was not scheduled in advance but was rather a result of walking by their video area and being asked “How about recording an interview right now?“, I thought it came off well. Only one mistake I noticed… the “Facebook Telephone” app is at http://apps.facebook.com/telephone, not the URL I gave in the video.

What will I say in the next video interview in the fall? All I can say today is that we’ve got a LOT in the pipeline… 2011 is going to be a wild ride!

At ITEXPO back in January, Eric Linask at TMC interviewed me in what has seemed to become a regular every-six-months routine. In the interview, I discussed:

• the Cloud Communications Summit and pushing communications out into “the cloud”
• security issues related to cloud communications
• what’s next in communications, including multi-channel communications (a part of which we refer to as Unified Self-Service)

The big black vehicle behind me was being raffled off as part of the event promotion… hence why we were there. (Wouldn’t it perhaps have been more interesting if we did the interview inside the vehicle?) Anyway… here’s the video: (and will astute observers notice anything about me that is different from the other videos I’ve done?)

“Cloud Telephony for the Enterprise”

This session discusses tradeoffs in deploying communications applications behind the firewall, with a hosted partner or through elastic mechanisms such as Amazon’s EC2.

Other speakers planned for this session are Troy Davis, CEO of CloudVox, and Evan Cooke, Co-Founder and CTO of Twilio.  Thomas Howe will moderate the session.

“Introduction to Voice Mashups: An introduction to the concept and architecture of using voice as part of modern web-based applications.”

Concrete voice mashup examples will be demonstrated, along with the business cases that support them.

Jason Goecke will be speaking, other speakers planned for this session are David Troy, Founder of Roundhouse Technologies, Jay Phillips, Founder of Adhearsion, and Joe Developer.  Thomas Howe will moderate the session.

“Value in the Clouds: The Evolution of the Telephone Industry”

With tremendous pressure on businesses and telephone companies of all sizes to generate new revenue without new capital or operational spending, hosted application opportunities are moving to the forefront of the communications arena. To fully leverage current opportunities in this fast-paced market, market participants need to first understand past and current computing models as well as the evolution of service providers beyond owning networks and selling basic voice offering. This session will discuss the evolution of the telco to more than merely a dial tone provider, the different telco models in existence today, and the new revenue potential of today’s telecom market.

Two weeks ago out at ITEXPO West 2009 in Los Angeles, Erin Harrison from TMCnet interviewed me (Dan York) about what Voxeo has been up to and where we are going. Amusingly, it didn’t really dawn on me why we were sitting in front of a green backdrop until I saw the end result and the fact that we now appear in front of a bunch of city buildings.

Back in early February, I (Dan York) was down at the Internet Telephony Expo (ITEXPO) East 2009 show in Miami and sat down with TMC’s Eric Linask to talk about what is new with Voxeo.

I recently noticed that TMC has added the ability to embed their videos, so while you can also view the video on TMC’s site, I thought I’d also share it here.

I should note that this video is now three months old, so some of the numbers I shared here are no longer correct (ex. we now have had over 35,000 developers build voice apps in our Evolution Developer Portal), but overall the information is still accurate. (Well, my title has since changed to “Director of Conversations”…)
